Make A Difference: LGBT Family Living History Project
The Family Equality Council will soon be launching a new project called the LGBT Family Living History Project:
Stories are powerful. They tell us who we are and how to think. Parents tell their children stories to shape their values and view of the world. When we tell other people our stories, we give them an opportunity to see the world as we see it, as we want them to see it. Whether it’s the story of how wonderful it felt the first time your child came into your home, or how terrible it feels to live in a state that won’t let you marry, your stories make a huge difference when you share them with the world.
That’s why Family Equality Council is launching the LGBT Family Living History Project. In the next few weeks, a new area of our website will be dedicated to collecting and sharing your stories. Each month we’ll announce a new theme for you to reflect on through this e-newsletter. Meanwhile, you’ll always be able to share any story of significance through our site. We’ll even provide tips on how to best get your stories across.
We’ll showcase your stories to inspire other LGBT parents, build community, and spark conversations. If your story relates to a current legislative project we’re working on, like helping to defeat the foster and adoption ban in Kentucky, or passing the Minnesota Safe Schools for All Bill, we’ll follow up with you to see if we can put your story to use more directly, persuading legislators and others to support policies that value and respect all families. Tell us what you think about this project!
Make a difference, tell your family’s story.
