LFC Announcements (4/19/09)
Have you signed up for the website mailing list yet?
Just a reminder to sign up for the new Lambda mailing list at lambdafamilycircle.org It is fast and easy, and you will automatically receive a confirmation email from the site after you sign up. We are going to shut down the Yahoo mailing list after the May meeting announcement, so afterwards the website mailing list will be the only way to stay updated on upcoming Lambda events. For those of you who are already signed up through the website, you can delete emails from Yahoo since they contain no additional information. As we get closer to the cutoff date, we will begin to remove website members from the Yahoo list as well.
Going to the Pride and Joy Conference this weekend?
There is no formal Lambda meetup scheduled, but if you are going please drop us a note at info@lambdafamilycircle.org and let us know that you will be there. The Bush-Frank family will be there all weekend, and on Saturday we will all be wearing our United Republic of Fatherhood t-shirts, so if you spot us please come and say hi!
Not going to the Pride and Joy Conference this weekend?
Keep an eye on www.greendadsblog.com, where the Bush-Franks will be posting news and followup reports from the conference.
Get involved at Equality and Justice Day
The Empire State Pride Agenda will be holding Equality and Justice Day at the Empire State Plaza next Tuesday (April 28) to lobby our representatives on GLBT issues. We have just learned that, in conjunction with Family Equality Council, they will be providing a Parent & Child Play/Retreat Room for GLBT families, with three areas: book / reading nook, activity center, and movie area with tv/vcr/dvd. They are seeking volunteers to help with staffing at any time between 10 am – 4pm, since they need 2 adults in the room at all times. Also, they are looking for activity and game ideas. We know that this is short notice, but if you can help with either of these, drop us an email at info@lambdafamilycircle.org
Get involved at Family Diversity Day
As part of Capital Region Pride, the New York State Museum will once again be hosting Family Diversity Day on Saturday, June 13th, from 11:00am until 4:00pm. It’s a day of outreach to LGBTQ families, when the Museum tries to attract a cross-section of folks to join together in a celebration of the community that we all live in and share. They hope to have a variety of activities going on that can be enjoyed by families. Some of the activities — but not all of them — are LGBTQ-specific in the sense that they deal with issues of concern to LGBTQ people or have a theme of tolerance or diversity, but all of them are things that can be enjoyed by anyone. Things that have been featured at the event over the years are puppet shows, music, storytelling, magic shows, and arts and crafts. The Museum is looking for any help we can provide in providing activities for Family Diversity Day, and is offering to provide us a table for passing out literature and also to list us as a co-sponsor of the event in their publicity. If you have any ideas on activities we could provide or would like to get involved in this event, email us at info@lambdafamilycircle.org
